Avalanche
Sovereign chains without starting from zero.
The signal.
Avalanche made a direct bet that one global chain would not fit every application. Its architecture gave teams a path to customize execution and governance while retaining a shared technical foundation.
An open-source blockchain platform for launching financial applications and purpose-built Layer 1 networks inside an interoperable ecosystem.
Avalanche is best understood as infrastructure for launching blockchains, not merely another place to deploy a smart contract. Its Primary Network secures a broader system in which teams can create application-specific Layer 1 networks with their own rules.
That matters when a product needs control over validators, fees, compliance, performance, or the virtual machine itself. The trade-off is responsibility: sovereignty gives a team more design space, but also more infrastructure and ecosystem work.
For Box Ventures, Avalanche represents a recurring thesis in crypto infrastructure: the important product is often the coordination layer that lets many other products exist.
Where it stands.
Active network; status reviewed against Avalanche's official platform documentation in August 2026.
